Personal Effectiveness Report

Personal Effectiveness Report Executive Summary Problem Statement Poor performance of duties is a big challenge to human resource managers since it impedes the progress of the organisation. Managers suggest that poor performance is caused by professional negligence, disorganisation, lack of devotion, and laziness among others.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on Personal Effectiveness Report specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More However, poor performance can be caused by poor allocation of duties where managers allocate roles regardless of the employee’s talents, preferences and attitudes. This implies that some employees are forced to perform duties to get money although they do not have passion for the duty Purpose The purpose of this report to give a detailed evaluation of an employee in order to choose a team that will participate in marketing. It will aim at evaluating the employee by applying various psychometric indicators which include Sel f-monitoring, Big Five Locators, Interaction Styles and Communication Test. Introduction Scenario Description Our university has introduced new courses in its curriculum according to the academic and professional needs of the surrounding society. However, the society is not aware of these new courses since they were introduced during the last academic year. In fact, this is the second intake for the courses implying that their popularity is low. This condition calls upon the marketing department to act swiftly in order to publicize the new courses to students. Nonetheless, the assistant marketing officer who is responsible for conducting the actual marketing was employed last month. The organisation has not evaluated Assem’s competence in regard to his marketing skills. We shall, therefore, conduct a personal evaluation to determine whether he is fit for marketing the new courses and realising the intended results. During marketing, he will be accompanied by two colleagues wh o include Kerry and Sarah. Kerry is the public relation officer who is in charge of maintaining a good corporate image to the outside world. He has worked in this department for four years implying that he has enough experience and sufficient history about the company. This experience makes it important for Kerry to work with Assem since marketing should be conjoined with good corporate relations. Additionally, Assem will be working with Sarah who is in charge of career development in the university.Advertising Looking for report on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Assem needs her assistance since the marketing of courses is related to career development (Edmonds, 2009). Overview of Psychometric Indicators During this evaluation, Assem was evaluated using four psychometric indicators which include Self -monitoring, Big Five Locator, Interaction Styles and Communication test. Self monitoring evaluates effectiveness by presenting a set of several questions which the subject should answer. The answers are based on a scale that ranges from zero to five. The scale values have different meaning according to the degree that has been pre-stipulated. The scores of all questions are added up to give the sum of the overall scores which define the monitor value. The highest value of self monitor is 65 while the lowest value is 0. The conventional value shows that people with high self monitors attain a scale of 53 and higher values than that one. People with high self monitor are better than the ones with low self monitor. They can perform in a better manner than their counterparts who have low self monitors. Secondly, the big five locator evaluates emotional stability, extroversion, openness to experience, agreeableness and contentiousness. The evaluation is also gauged by giving scaled opin ions and adding up in order to get the final values. These sums are measured conventional values which interprets the meaning of the values that has been obtained. Additionally, the psychometrics involves the use of self control and interaction styles.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on Personal Effectiveness Report specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Literature Review Previously, it has been stated that this evaluation considers four indicators which include Self Monitoring, Five Big Locator, Interaction Styles and Communication Skills. However, there are many indicators that measure the effectiveness including IQ tests, emotional intelligence, and self control among others. Choosing the four indicators is inspired by existing literature showing that the uses of these indicators are consistent with the managerial requirements. In this light, researchers argue that marketers should understand their characteristics. Moreo ver, they contend that marketers should understand whether they can change their characters according to situations that confront them. Further, they contend that capability of changing the marketing strategies is a crucial factor. In this case, they suggest that a marketer should be capable of changing a strategy if the original one does not work. This implies that they should understand their flexibility and the capability of embracing change. The authors are consistent with the ideologies that are addressed by self monitoring. This implies that application of self monitor is a suitable evaluation tool for Assem. Additionally, they argue that emotions determine the tolerance level which dictates the ability to convince customers. In this case, an impatient marketer can become intolerant when potential customers pose many questions. On the same note, the method of Big Five Locator seeks to evaluate the emotional stability. Additionally, marketing is concerned with the openness of t he person who is evaluated. Similarly, Big Five Locator addresses the level of openness in order to determine whether the person provide information openly. Additionally, it is evident that marketers should control the contention and controversies. Research purports that low levels of contention ensures that marketers do not conflict with potential customers leading to loss of interest.Advertising Looking for report on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More In the same way, Big Five Locator evaluates the agreeableness of a person to opinions which are raised by others. This implies that marketing and Big Five Locator are concerned with level of contention. These instances show that the Big Five Locator method is consistent with the ideologies of marketing. It, therefore, follows that this method is a pertinent and a crucial indicator that can be used to determine the effectiveness of a marketing agent. Lastly, previous literature portrays a strong relationship between marketing and communication with potential customers. In this case, a marketer must deliver information in a clear, precise and understandable manner (Stenerson, 1994. Consequently, the above tests aim at evaluating the ability of Assem to communicate with people. It aims at evaluating whether he can balance his time with the content he delivers during a marketing talk (McDonald, 1998). Data Methodology of Testing In order to test the capability of Assem, four tests were conducted on him. These tests included: Interaction styles This test was conducted to determine four aspects of interaction styles which include Get-Things-Going, Behind-the-Scenes, In-Charge and Chart-the-course. The table below shows the interaction styles and characteristics of people who have those aspects. Get things going Behind-the-Scenes In-Charge Chart-the-Course Fast Pace Take Responsibility Decisive Take caution Find Recognition Security Conscious Seek Competition Goal oriented Positive about issue Perform Excellently Administrative Follow plans Trustworthy Patient Fast Paced Organized Table 1: It represents the various interaction styles and the attributes that are exhibited by each of them The big 5 locator The big five locator test was used to determine the emotions of Assem that could affect his activities in the field. These include; Extroversion Emotional stability Openness Agreeableness Conscientiousness Self monitoring This test aims at measuring t he level of emotions that is exhibited by the person who is considered. A reference score of 53 is used in a manner that when the score is below 53, the person has high self monitoring capability while scores above 53 portray low self monitoring capability (Campos, 1991). Self control This is a test that assigns personality according to the score which is obtained through computations. Its results show the strengths, potential strengths and limitations of the individual. Self Control Assem’s Strengths He can easily monitor himself among his colleagues He can modify his ideologies in order to accommodate others He is sociable since he is an extrovert Potential Strengths He is agreeable Have stable emotions Limitations He is a challenger Results Analysis Interaction Styles Assem exhibits three interaction styles which include Get-things-Going, Behind-the-Scenes and Chart-the-Course. This implies that he can efficiently communicate with Kerry and Sarah as well as compromise with them when confronting issues. Five Big Locator The Five Big Locator shows that Assem has the following attributes. Emotionally unstable Strong Extrovert Exhibits little openness to experience Low levels of agreeableness Low levels of conscientiousness Since he is an extrovert, he will interact well with Kerry and Sarah for the success of the marketing program. Self Monitor A self monitor score of 55 shows that Assem can monitor and modify his behaviour when working with Kerry and Sarah. This implies that he can work with both of them in a favourable manner. However, results shows that he is contentious in nature meaning that he might challenge other during discussions. Self Control Assem’s Strengths He can easily monitor himself among his colleagues He can modify his ideologies in order to accommodate others He is sociable since he is an extrovert Potential Strengths He is agreeable Limitations He is a challenger Assem can, therefore, take on a leadership role and perform excellently since he has a high self monitoring and control. Recommendation and Conclusion There are various recommendations that could arise from the tests that were conducted. The management should assign the task to Assem since results show that he is capable leader. He should be advised about controlling emotions and contention in order to improve his performance. Assem should be allowed to work with Sarah and Kerry so that they can share their experiences with his since he has low openness to experience. In conclusion, this group that will comprise of the three personnel under the leadership will carry out their role perfectly owing to the tactical selection and all-rounded leadership. Comments for Ruby Code (Usage, Single, and Multi-Line)

Comments for Ruby Code (Usage, Single, and Multi-Line) Comments in your Ruby code are notes and annotations meant to be read by other programmers. The comments themselves are ignored by the Ruby interpreter, so the text inside the comments isnt subject to any restrictions. Its usually good form to put comments before classes and methods as well any piece of code that may be complex or unclear. Using Comments Effectively Comments should be used to give background information or annotate difficult code. Notes that simply say what the next line of straightforward code does are not only obvious but also add clutter to the file. Its important to take care not to use too many comments and to be sure the comments made in the file are meaningful and helpful to other programmers. The Shebang Youll notice that all Ruby programs start with a comment that begins with #!. This is called a shebang and is used on Linux, Unix and OS X systems. When you execute a Ruby script, the shell (such as bash on Linux or OS X) will look for a shebang at the first line of the file. The shell will then use the shebang to find the Ruby interpreter and run the script. The preferred Ruby shebang is #!/usr/bin/env ruby, though you may also see #!/usr/bin/ruby or #!/usr/local/bin/ruby. Single-Line Comments The Ruby single-line comment begins with the # character and ends at the end of the line. Any characters from the # character to the end of the line are completely ignored by the Ruby interpreter. The # character doesnt necessarily have to occur at the beginning of  the line; it can occur anywhere. The following example illustrates a few uses of comments. #!/usr/bin/env ruby # This line is ignored by the Ruby interpreter # This method prints the sum of its arguments def sum(a,b)   Ã‚  puts ab end sum(10,20) # Print the sum of 10 and 20 Multi-Line Comments Though often forgotten by many Ruby programmers, Ruby does have multi-line comments. A multi-line comment begins with the begin token and ends with the end token. These tokens should start at the beginning of the line and be the only thing on the line. Anything between these two tokens is ignored by the Ruby interpreter. #!/usr/bin/env ruby begin Between begin and end, any number of lines may be written. All of these lines are ignored by the Ruby interpreter. end puts Hello world! In this example, the code would execute as Hello world!

Answering questions - Assignment Example This is why in the research conducted; the researcher identified both the dependent and independent variables in order to know which factors he cannot manipulate. However, the researcher did not rely on quantitative methods. This is because in quantitative methods, much data is collected which implies that results may be limited as they offer numerical explanations rather than detailed description of results. In addition, research is conducted in unnatural way in order to apply a level of control, which might produce different results from the real world results. Further, results obtained do not reflect how people think and feel about the research topic. The researcher in this research had good grasp of research questions, which allowed him to compare photographs of candidates in different newspapers but in the same race. In this case, Pollock (58) asserts that it is easy to influence information in reproducible and consistent

Research Critical Appraisal Article Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Critical Appraisal Article - Research Paper Example Need for urgent treatment and trauma undermine initiatives for preserving fertility and little knowledge exists on perception of the patients and their decisions on fertility preservation following availed information. The clinical problem was therefore preservation of fertility among cancer patients, who are still in their reproductive age, prior to treatment. The research problem however, was lack of knowledge on perception of cancer among patients of the reproductive age, based on availed information, and use of fertility preservation techniques. This knowledge, among care providers and patients, can inform decisions on preservation of fertility (Peddie, Porter, Barbour, Culligan, MacDonald, King, Horn, and Bhattacharya, 2012). The author established significance of the study through identifying the target population, significance of reproduction to the population, and threat to reproduction due to uninformed decisions into cancer treatment, following diagnosis. Importance of reproduction to the society identifies significance of the problem to every individual who has understood the role of procreation and wish for personal fertility of that of a friend, relative, or an associate. Identification of existence of fertility preservation techniques that were still underutilized also established significance of the study to diagnosed cancer patients and those who have not been diagnosed with cancer because everyone is at risk. The purpose of the study was to expand the audience’s knowledge on factors that influence people’s decisions to preserve their fertility following cancer diagnosis and current application of available fertility preservation methods. The study aimed at developing knowledge on patients’ perception on and use of fertility preservation method and these relate to the research problem of lack of knowledge on patients’ perception on and application of the preservation techniques. The objective

Social Behavior of the Silvered Leaf Monkey Essay Example for Free

Social Behavior of the Silvered Leaf Monkey Essay Adult Silvered Leaf Monkey (Trachyphitecus sp. ) can be distinguished by having silver-tip fur, with dark-skinned face, a feature which is entirely different from the infants. Infants can be seen as a starling bright orange. However, in Sabah (Malaysian Borneo) reddish adults also occur. Species Range Species of Silvered Leaf Monkeys can be found ranging from Indochina, Southern Burma, Southern Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia to Sumatra, Java, and Borneo. Group Size Species of Silvered Leaf Monkey are usually found in groups up to about ten. The average group size of Javan Langur is around seven individuals (V. Nijman, unpubl. data; cited in Nijman and van Balen, 1998). Based on Kool (1991) found that groups ranged in size from 6-21 individuals with one or two adult males in the group. Group sizes were observed to be larger on Lombok Island, Indonesia, in secondary and monsoon forests than in tropical forests (Supriatna et al. , 1986). Foraging Behavior of Silvered Leaf Monkey Silvered Leaf Monkeys are observed feeding on young leaf shoots or forest fruits in swampy areas, riverine forests and back-mangrove (â€Å"Silvered Leaf Monkey. † 2007). The diet of the Leaf Monkey consists of young leaves and leaf buds, including sweet and fleshy fruits (ripe and unripe), flowers, flower buds, and insect larvae (Kool, 1993). During times that fruits are unavailable or not in season, they increase the intake of young shoots/leaves. It was found out that half of the dietary intake for the subspecies T. auratus sondaicus consisted of protein-rich leaves (Kool, 1992, 1993). In addition to that, the leaves that, the Silver Leaf Monkey selects and prefers to eat consists of low-fiber contents which are easily digestible (Kool, 1992). Silver Leaf Monkey rarely eat mature leaves, they are observed to spent 20% of feeding time foraging on species of Moraceae. When the favored food are scares, their important food source are young leaves of the teak tree (Tectona grandis), (Kool, 1993, 1991). The midrib part of the leaf of teak tree are mostly preferred to be eaten by the Silver leaf Monkey. Nutritional Value of Their Diets Part of their diet, are high protein rich leaves and leaves with low fiber-content which are easily digestible. According to Kool (1993) twenty seven to thirty seven percent of their diets was fruit in which fifteen to twenty seven percent consists of the diets of unripe fruit, and ten to twelve percent of the diet ripe fruit. These fruits that they consume consists of higher amount of condensed tannins, (which according to Goltenboth 1976; Davies, et al. , 1998; Kool, 1992, is useful in the diet because they may reduce acidosis of the stomach by slowing down the rate of fermentation) and total phenolics. Part of the diet of the subpsecies T. auratus sondaicus are ripe fruits which was found causing acidosis in colobines, this is maybe the reason why colobines avoid eating this (Goltenboth, 1976; Kool, 1992). Some of the species also prefer eating fruits with seeds. Some of the important species of trees they prefer to consume are from Ficus sinulata, Ficis sumatrana and Vitex pinnata (Kool, 1993). Depending on what kind of fruits was in season especially during the month of July, August, September, January and February, the kind of food that different groups prefers, varies. Groups may feeds simultaneously having the same food preference. Individuals may be observed eating while the others are traveling or resting. It was also observed that compared to other group of adults and sub-adults the male Silvered Leaf Monkey fed less frequently (Brotoisworo and Dirgavusa, 1991). Locomotion It was observed that the silvered leaf monkey (Javan langur) moves through the forest, quadrupedally (Rowe, 1996). Social Behavior The species of Javan langur are found living in social groups of one or two adult males and some groups on Lombok islands are observed to have only one male. The males were observed to separate and travel solitarily or mixed with all-male groups. The male tends to maintain close proximity with other males the same is true with the females, who tend to maintain close proximity with other females. Aggressive behavior of adult females against one another of the same sex can be observed. Some females may tend to care infants which are not from them (Kool, 1991; Supriatna, etal. 1986; Bennett and Davies, 1994; Rowe, 1994; and Mengantara and Dirgayusa, 1994). Vocal Communication: Silvered leaf Monkey produced a sound like â€Å"ghek-ghok-ghek-ghok,† which serves as their alarm call (Gumaya et al). Reproduction: The species of silvered leaf monkey produces or gives birth to only one offspring at a time. References Bennett, E. L. and Davies, A. G. 1994. Punishment Quote in The Scarlet Letter :: essays research papers

Punishment Quote “Only the man who has enough good in him to feel the justice of the penalty can be punished; the other can only be hurt.'; This is a very interesting quote, and depending what you make of it, it can be very confusing. To most people this quote might not mean anything, but you must read it and try to understand it. Though this quote can relate to a persons personality, it also might not relate to a person at all. All people are different and think differently than others. Almost everybody in the world has a different understanding of what is wrong and what is right, and also of what should be punished and what should not be punished.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The quote “Only the man who has enough good in him to feel the justice of the penalty can be punished; the others can only be hurt,'; may have many meanings to many different people. To me this quote means that if a person does not know or does not believe that what they have done to be punished is bad, then the punishment will mean nothing to them. If the person thinks that they did nothing wrong, and thinks there is no reason for them to be punished, then the punishment will mean nothing to them. The person will gain nothing, they will gain no knowledge from their act or their punishment. There are a lot of reasons why people do not understand the concept of punishment in the world. People think very differently from others, therefore, people will have different beliefs of what is right and what is wrong. A person might consider one thing to be a wrong action and the need to be punished, while another person thinks the opposite. They might think it is not wrong and there is no need for punishment. If actions are not dealt with correctly, punishment will be of no use. People will become out of control and there will be nothing but chaos in the world we live in.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  This quote relates to the book, The Scarlet Letter, as well as all of its characters quite a bit. In fact the whole book, from what I have read, is mainly about punishment, while this quote is also about punishment. The main character of The Scarlet Letter, Hester Prynne, must deal with a major punishment for her actions. Hester Prynne realizes that what she did was wrong and she accepted the punishment willingly, she even made and sewed the “A'; herself.

Team Case Critique

Electronic Arts is an American based company it mainly markets and produces computer and video games. It’s widely recognized for developing brilliant sports games along with this it also produces a wide variety of different games for the consumers. Moreover it manufactures the games fulfilling the requirements of all the platforms that is it does not restrict its games for the usage of one platform only.It is a profitable and prosperous company, however in the present days it is suffering as there are some great concerns regarding its business. For this purpose the board would advice the CEO that the company should bring a change in its strategies in order to thrive in such a competitive and demanding environment the company should firstly look towards the creation of downloadable games of this will not only increase the sales of its games but also reduce the costs of physically making the game, the handling and inventory of the games.More to add Electronic Art should work on establishing an online platform where games are available for being downloaded, although this will cost the company some amount but the increase in revenue that will be generated by the sale of the games online will be completely worth the efforts. Additionally making small versions of the game will also be favorable for the company as converting the larger versions into mini versions does not require much additional resources. This way the games can easily be downloaded to wireless devices such as the mobile phones and I pods, which will be an added source of income for the company without incurring a great deal of added costs. There is a price ceiling that exists in the game market of $59. 99 the platform manufactures do not wish to increase the price beyond that, these console manufactures have great power to influence the prices. The only way Electronic Art can shatter this price limit is by producing innovative and distinguished games.By offering product differentiation only wil l the manufactures be able to set their own prices for their product instead of being under pressure by the console manufacturers. For this purpose the company should look to towards attracting fresh and young talent and merge them with the experienced teams that have made the name of the â€Å"popular games† a huge success in the market. The company’s statistics show that the top 100 games are responsible for 50 % of the sales for the company this means that the rest of the games for which money is spent on is simply wasted as it does not prove to be fruitful for the company. The company should adopt a strategy of producing limited games but doing a lot of research and development for the making of these games this as this will lead to a greater possibility that these games will be a winner in the market. This will provide opportunities for the company to cut down its costs and use its resources more competently. We also agree with valuing the employees and develop str ategies to retain the talented and experienced personnel of the organization. As a result we should provide the employees with enhanced monetary and non monetary benefits.Profit sharing with the employees is a great idea as that will make the employees feel a part of the company and encourage them to use resources more wisely. Try to coordinate employees to work cooperatively and come up with out of the box ideas and strategies. In our opinion the company should not discontinue usage of celebrity endorsement to promote the games but to limit it as far as possible in order to keep costs within a limit. Unnecessary and excessive celebrity endorsements should be avoided as this leads to increasing the burden of costs for the company. To resolve the issue of the high royalty fees charged by the console manufacturers EA should look forward with having negotiations with those companies. The companies should be told that Electronic Art is willing to pay for the royalty fees when a game is l ucrative in the market but in those cases where the games are not doing well in the market the console manufacturers should not take royalty fees from those games as the dealing for those games would be mainly to recover the costs and settle at breakeven.Special incentives such as supplementary royalty fees should be provided to the console manufacturers if the games are unbeaten and are doing a flourishing business. This incentive will help to motivate the console manufacturers to agree to Electronic Art’s offer. Starting off with small console manufacturer is a good idea as that enables to convince those manufacturers easily as they rely on Electronic Art’s games. They should motivate the console manufacturers that by following our company’s proposed recommendation regarding the royalty fees both of our companies will grow together this way. The future strategies have to be based on lowering costs but increasing revenue, but at the same time not compromising on the entertainment factor the games provide. The including of inbuilt advertisements within the game is a great source of revenue and also doesn’t distract the attention of the gamer.Advertisers are ready to market their products and services in such a manner as it is a fabulous way to subconsciously advertise a company’s product and services. Furthermore the suggestion of providing opportunities for the improvement the characters online with a small amount of fee is quite impressive. As many gamers will be willing to enhance the style and functionalities of their characters and with a small amount of fee numerous customers will be wanting to avail this facility which will lead to increased revenue for the company. After the company attains substantial success and generates enough funds it should focus its attention on developing multiplayer games, as these games require a great deal of capital to be developed. Hence firstly the company should expand by all those means that do not call for a significant amount of excess funding then move on to those projects that need a great deal of investments. Moreover the company should think of implementing other major projects which include virtual simulation when they have enough financing as these types of games also require ample of resources.Additionally in the long run the company could also work on coming up with its own platform, however this decision has to be taken quite carefully and vigilantly as there is a risk of losing out the customers if this strategy proves to be unsuccessful. At present the company’s strategy should be to capitalize on the sports section of the games in which the company is fine and move forward with the innovative and creative ideas that develop in the company that do not require a high level budget, later on it should move on to extensive projects when Electronic Arts has loads of funds to commence them.Summary Electronic Arts is a company that manufacture a wide v ariety of games for many console manufactures, online use and mobile phone devices. It specializes in the development of sports games . The company has its headquarters in America and it has been a giant in the game business and has come up with several of â€Å"super hit â€Å"games for the industry. It is recognized for a company that comes up with creative ideas and innovative games by altering the graphics, animation, programming, etc.The company is facing certain issues at present ant the only way to get back again is to develop certain strategies and act on them as soon as possible. Due to increased restrictions from the console manufacturers the company should also focus its attention to provide games online and on mobile phones as these steps will enhance the prosperity of the company. Additionally Electronic Arts should come up with original and new games, those games will be differentiated and then Electronic Arts will have the opportunity to charge more on those games.T his will help to diminish the price ceiling that exists in the market as Electronic Arts will be able to influence the price of the games. The company should try to negotiate with the other console manufacturers to remove the royalty charges incase the game does not do well in the market. Furthermore, the company should look for further ways to increase the revenue and cut down costs for the company.Inbuilt advertisements within the games and providing gamers the opportunity to upgrade the characteristics of the characters with a small amount of charge, these tactics will enable the company to generate added revenue. In the future when Electronic Arts has sufficient funds it should look towards emphasizing on multiplayer games and games with simulation effects. At present its strategy should be focused on increasing revenue while keeping costs within boundaries. Reference: 1) Website: www. ea. com Date accessed 1 July 2008

Admission to University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston

Right from a very young age I had always enjoyed helping people. As I grew up my involvement with helping people waxed tremendously. The consequence of this predilection was the development of a passionate desire to help the sick and ailing. I was extremely fortunate to realize my true calling in life at a very young age.At present I am in my senior year at the University of Houston. I will become a graduate in the spring of the year 2008. Subsequently, it is my heartfelt desire to be admitted to the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Furthermore, I am working as a treasurer for the Cougars Volunteer Association. Moreover, my main volunteer work is with respect to the work that I do at the Ben Taub General Hospital. Houston is home to a number of hospitals that are some of the best in the world. The Texas Medical Centre is a telling example of this fact. The Ben Taub General Hospital is an elite Level 1 Trauma Centre, with a very large intake of adults and children for treatment. My volunteer services require me to visit each patient, in order to ascertain that they obtain what they need. I had been awarded a pharmacy technician certificate and I had been working at a pharmacy as a pharmacy technician, prior to my current volunteer service at the Ben Taub General Hospital.  I am ecstatic at helping and working with patients, especially the old, the infirm and children. This has dictated my choice to become a nurse. I have learned to treat challenges as stepping stones and not stopping stones to success. One such major challenge that arose was consequent to my having to work while studying as a full – time student. This challenge caused me a great deal of difficulty, nevertheless, I was able to overcome it and in the process I became that much more experienced in handling a combination of hard work, stress and paucity of time. This particular challenge gave me the confidence to attain any goal that I set my sights on.In the year 1972 The University of Texas School of Nursing at Houston was established. At present it is one of the best schools for learning the art and science of nursing. The Texas Medical Center is home to the School of Nursing campus. It provides all the benefits and expertise of a world class Health Science Center. The University Of Texas Houston School Of Nursing provides a wide choice of course work, which culminates in the BSN, MSN, PhD or DNP degree. The methodology of imparting knowledge at this school is flexible and students can learn, work on research projects and participate in clinical practice in multifarious ways (School of Nursing at Houston, 2007).In addition, this school has assimilated the latest developments in technology. Accordingly, facilities like teleconferencing and satellite communications are widely used to enable contact with distant locations. Moreover, this technology has made it possible for classes to be conducted simultaneously at Houston and other sites. The Universit y Of Texas School Of Nursing at Houston provides a number of highly innovative programs and one such program that is offered in collaboration with the UTMB is a baccalaureate nursing program, which is spread over three semesters. This program caters to the need of students who possess a degree and who are desirous of joining the nursing profession. Instructions are provided online. Moreover, there are eleven masters programs, which hone the specialty care skills of nurses and ensure their professional advancement. The faculty is excellent and consists of some of the greatest nursing professionals (School of Nursing at Houston, 2007).Nursing is not only an art but also a science and concentrates on enabling families, people and society to achieve, recover and maintain the best possible health. Modern nursing aims at engendering improving the quality of life by ensuring the best of mental and physical health. Nursing has been extremely successful in achieving this great objective. The a ct of rendering relief to a sick person provides immense satisfaction. This extremely noble profession has been succinctly described by the American Nurses Association as â€Å"Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities; prevention of illness and injury; alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human responses; and advocacy in health care for individuals, families, communities, and populations.†This is very much in consonance with my objectives in life. Therefore, I am exceedingly keen to study at this venerable school of nursing. It is my life’s passion to succor the sick, infirm, old and children and to this end the best profession is that of nursing. As such, any person who whole – heartedly participates in the academic programs of this school is certain to become a very good nurse.ReferencesSchool of Nursing at Houston. (2007, June 11). Red from Green essay Essays

Red from Green essay Essays Red from Green essay Essay Red from Green essay Essay Red from Green essay BY benJ3164 Essay Red from Green All children need to undertake a Journey from being a child to an adult. For some, the journey goes very smooth and without any bumps, but for other it is a rough Journey. This is one of the most crucial themes in the novel Red from Green written by Maile Meloy. The novel describes a teenager named Sam who undertake the Journey of becoming a woman. The novel explains that Sam is out on a yearly float trip with her father, uncle and a client of her uncle. Sam is described as a slightly awkward teenage girl; She was awkward at fifteen, and praise made her suspicious. (p. l . ) The novel suggest, that she is not used to be complimented, and therefore she might have a low self-esteem. This low self-esteem could be a result of her complicated relationship with her father. Sam and her father has a distant relationship and we can assume this is because of the death of her mother. This important link in the family, which suddenly disappears, can lead to a lack of communication in the family. We can see this when neither Sam nor her father wants to talk about the boarding school; Everyone said what and opportunity it was, so much better than the local schools, but neither of them could bring themselves to talk about it. (p. 8. ) This lack of communication eventually leads to her taking more interest in another man who gives her attention. Layton presents himself as an alternative type of man, who appreciate her for being a women, however her father do not want to accept this and therefore still perceive her as a girl. Her father and Layton represent the separation in Sam. The part of her, which is still a child and the part of her, which wants to grow up. In additional the text displays the separation when she helps Layton with his back; The right side of her body was warm from the fire, the left side was cold. It was too cold at night to be wearing shorts (p. 1 1 The chilliness symbolize the part of her, which wants to grow up, in other words, the adult part of her. Where the warmth symbolize the part of her that still wants to be a child. Laytons relationship with Sam is purely based on his sexually intentions, which she discovers that evening; She was on one knee, half-straddling his back in the dust, and he rolled over, facing her. His hand slip up her leg to the small of her back and held tight. His eyes were cloudy and intent, focused and unfocused, and shed never seen a man look that way before (p. 1 . ) This encounter is a turning point for Sam, where she not literally, but in a symbolic way loses her innocence. We can see this after the encounter where Sam lies alone in her tent; She kept her hands between her thighs for warmth and the feeling there was sharp aching, but she didnt know what to do about it except lie awake, breathing until it went away (p. 12. ) The warmth in her body, which symbolize her childhood is vanishing, has almost left her body altogether. Her childhoods innocence blossoms one last time, in the end of the novel, where she talks to her father; She felt a flood f warmth for him, an overwhelming feeling that it was a mistake to go away. He she wanted to ask to make sure, but instead she took her dishes to the sink and the moment was over. (p. 12. ) The fact that she did not ask him why he left her with Layton, that evening and the warm feeling disappears, shows that her childhood is over. This brutal loss of innocence is the main theme in the story. We can also spot this in the title Red from Green, which symbolizes the loss of virginity. Another important symbol is the setting of the novel. The story takes place in the nature, hich can symbolize two different themes. The first is the natural sexual desires and instinct in the human brain. The second is the natural growth from child to adult. The main theme in the text is very typical in postmodern society. Many young teenagers like Sam, encounter some kind of crisis while growing up. If you use Red from Green as an example, there can be two separate reasons for this. The first is the change in the family pattern, like the death of Sams mother. The second is the many different choices young people have to take from an early age, like Sams choice of going to a boarding school.

Using Meter

Using 'Meter' Meter is one of those verbs that can mean a wide variety of things depending on the context. Much like poner, with which its meanings overlap, it often carries the idea of interjecting someone or something into a place or situation. Meter has no direct English equivalent, although it is a cousin of words such as permit, commit and mission. It has no apparent connection with the verb to mete nor the noun meter. Meter comes from the Latin verb mittÄ•re, which meant to let go or to send. Meter is conjugated regularly, following the pattern of beber and many other verbs. It is frequently used reflexively. The most common translations for meter are to put and to place. Some examples: El empresario metià ³ el dinero en un banco suizo. The businessman put the money in a Swiss bank. Yo metà la cabeza debajo de la almohada para no oà rla. I placed my head underneath the pillow so I wouldnt hear her. Cuando vamos a meter peces en el acuario, debemos seguir unas pautas. When were going to put fish in the aquarium, we should follow some guidelines. La chef metià ³ una pizza encima de papel de aluminio en el horno. The chef placed a pizza on top of aluminum foil in the oven. Van a la playa y meten los pies en el agua. Theyre going to the beach and putting their feet in the water. A la edad de ocho aà ±os, su padre lo metià ³ en la escuela jesuita. At the age of eight, his father put him in the Jesuit school. Go into or enter is a good translation in some situations: Un intruso se metià ³ en la casa de la cantante. An intruder entered the singers house. Se metieron en la oficina, cerrando la puerta. They went into the office, closing the door. In sports, meter can mean to score: El otro dà a nos metieron dos goles ilegales. The other day they scored two illegal goals against us. Meter can be used to refer to getting involved with something, often in a negative sense such as meddling: No es necesario meter a Dios en estas cosas. It isnt necessary to get God involved in these things. No te debes meter en mi vida. You shouldnt involve yourself in my life. Mis jefes se meten en mis asuntos privados. My bosses are meddling in my private affairs. In some circumstances, meter can mean to give, so once in a while its meaning overlaps with dar: Abrà un mensaje una vez y se me metià ³ un virus. I opened a message one time and it gave me a virus. La policà a me metià ³ cuatro multas por tirar papeles. The police gave me four tickets for littering. The Impact of Fruit Juices on the Dental Erosion in Human Tooth Enamel Research Paper

The Impact of Fruit Juices on the Dental Erosion in Human Tooth Enamel - Research Paper Example This literature review explores the impact of fruit juices on dental health as well as the factors causing dental erosion. It also explores various investigations which are helpful in the detection and prediction of dental erosion. Considering the issue to be of paramount significance the present study has been carried out. Objectives: Human tooth is composed of minerals, organic matter as well as water with variation in the thickness, blood and nerve supply; therefore an irreversible alteration of mineralization is frequent. Consumption of soft drinks directly influences enamel of the teeth. The present study is conducted to review various factors which play an imperative role in dental erosion and the techniques for investigating the erosion of enamel. Methodology: Direct and indirect methods were adopted to study the dental erosion. Measurement of weight loss was performed with/ without stirring with magnetic rods, up to 300 revolutions per minute. Further micro-indentation, nano- indentation, profilometry, micro-radiography, chemical analysis techniques were adopted followed by microscopy. Result: Dental erosion examined with three fruit juices namely lemon, orange and apple, shows that prolonged consumption of orange juice leads to more severe dental erosion in babies as compared to adults. Conclusion: Phosphoric acid, hydrochloric acid, citric acid, malic acid and tartaric acid present in the fruit juices alter the pH of the enamel leading to its erosion. Fruit juices are known to cause chelation with calcium further, contributing to dental erosion. Aim of the project This project aims to find the impact of one such consumable substance i.e. fruit juice on teeth enamel and dentine of both children and adults. Also, this project provides background information of human teeth and information about dental erosion including the factors which affect erosion. In addition, this project reviews of techniques for investigating the erosion of enamel. The anatomical composition of the human tooth varies throughout the length. This variation is attributed to the difference in thickness of enamel and presence or absence of dentin, thickest enamel at the cusp and thinnest at the borders, moreover, borders also lack dentin, blood and nerve supply. Consumption of soft drinks directly influences enamel at the borders of teeth. It is imperative to understand the factors contributing to the dental erosion in adults as well as in babies. With this motive, the present study was carried out utilizing various modern techniques for investigation to safeguard individuals form witnessing dental erosions. Discussion Dental anatomy plays a vital role in making the enamel prone to the dental erosion due to consumption of food items rich in acidic components. Under normal pH bacteria proliferate if the microbes get adhered to the leftover food particles leading to the formation of dental carries or cavities (Touger-Decker, 2003). On the other hand, eating large q uantities of fruits on a regular basis also result in irreversible loss of tooth constitution due to their dissolution by organic acids present in the fruit juices. A chemical reaction occurs between the enamel of the teeth and the organic acids present in the fruit juices resulting in the dental erosion or the acid erosion and therefore it is one of the major dental health concern (U. S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2007). A
